Acharya Bangalore B-School (ABBS), in partnership with the Bengaluru City Police, hosted a successful awareness program addressing crucial topics such as personal responsibility, drug prevention, and women’s safety at the BMR Auditorium. It was aimed to empower students and staff with critical knowledge and strategies for fostering a safer, more informed campus environment.
The event was attended by distinguished faculty, students, and staff, with insightful contributions from key speakers, including Dr. Poornima K. and Dr. Bindya Yohannan, creating a collaborative and informative atmosphere. Police Sub-Inspector Mr Arjun also delivered an impactful talk on the dangers of drug and alcohol abuse, including the fact that India witnesses ten drug-related suicides daily, underscoring the urgent need for preventative action. He referenced the National Youth Anti-Drug Media Campaign, part of India’s Anti-Drug Policies, which targets young people in transition from school to college with comprehensive anti-drug messages through various media outlets. Research has shown that youth exposed to these prevention messages are less likely to misuse drugs and alcohol, making these initiatives essential in today’s context.
Sri Veeranna S. Magi, Station In-Charge at Byadarahalli Police Station, and his team attended the event as honoured guests, representing the Bengaluru City Police’s support in promoting safety and responsibility within the community.
Mr. Ajitesh Basani, Executive Director-Administration at ABBS, also addressed the attendees, sharing a powerful thought: “Creating a safer environment begins with each one of us taking responsibility for our actions and supporting those around us.” This resonated strongly with the event’s themes, encouraging both students and staff to actively contribute to the safety and well-being of their campus and the larger community.
Dr. Jayathi R., Head of the MBA Department, closed the event with a vote of thanks, expressing appreciation for the Bengaluru City Police, guest speakers, and attendees for their commitment to fostering a safer and more conscious student community.
