The Bharti Airtel Foundation, Bharti Enterprises’ philanthropy arm, has unveiled a new scholarship programme to help students in technology. This merit-based scholarship will pay all college expenses for the duration of the recipients’ courses, as well as equip each scholar with a laptop. Eligible students will also receive housing and meal costs.
The scholarship is designed for students from a variety of socioeconomic backgrounds who are studying undergraduate engineering and integrated programmes (up to five years) at one of the top 50 National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) engineering institutes, including IITs. The programme would help students whose annual family income does not exceed Rs 8.5 lakh.
The project, named the ‘Bharti Airtel Scholarship Programme,’ is largely aimed at female students. Starting with 250 scholarships available for students eligible for admission in August 2024, the programme seeks to assist 4,000 scholars with an annual budget of more than Rs 100 crore as it rises to its full potential.
This fully funded fellowship aims to remove financial barriers that impede deserving students, particularly those from underprivileged families, from receiving a decent education. The scholarship will cover undergraduate and integrated studies in electronics and communication, telecom, information technology, computer sciences, data sciences, and emerging technologies (AI, IoT, AR/VR, Machine Learning, Robotics) at the top 50 NIRF engineering institutions.
Recipients of this prize, known as ‘Bharti Scholars,’ will receive complete college tuition, a laptop, and dormitory and mess costs if eligible. The programme encourages Bharti Scholars to help at least one student on a volunteer basis once they graduate and find work, creating a cycle of giving and empowerment.

Rakesh Bharti Mittal, Vice Chairman of Bharti Enterprises and Co-Chairman of the Bharti Airtel Foundation, emphasised the program’s goal of reinforcing the principles of exemplary learning and accessible education in Indian academia, with the aim of preparing professionals to face the future’s evolving technological landscape.
