GGSIPU Celebrates 16th Convocation with Grandeur

The 16th Convocation ceremony of Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University (GGSIPU) witnessed a momentous occasion as around 24,708 students, including 78 Gold medallists and 82 Ph.D holders, were awarded degrees on Tuesday. The ceremony held at the university’s sprawling campus in Dwarka was graced by the Chancellor of the University and Lieutenant Governor of Delhi, Shri Vinai Kumar Saxena.

In a heartwarming gesture, a Gold medal in memory of the late Shri B. P. Joshi, former registrar of the University, was presented to Dr Hemant K Arya. The Sidharth Khitolia Award was bestowed upon Manisha Puri, a passing-out student, for her outstanding contributions in the field of Architecture.

Chancellor Shri Vinai Kumar Saxena, presiding over the function, expressed his admiration for the university’s integrative approach. He commended the institution for providing a comprehensive education that blends ancient knowledge from Ayurveda, Unani, Homeopathy, Gita, and Upanishads with modern disciplines like Design, Innovation, Automation, Robotics, Pharmaceuticals, and Artificial Intelligence.

Padmashri Prof. (Dr.) Mahesh Verma, Vice Chancellor, presented the university report, highlighting its remarkable journey from a small temporary campus at Kashmere Gate to two expansive campuses in Dwarka and East Delhi. With over 90,000 students, 191 programs, and affiliations with 113 institutions across Delhi and NCR, the university has earned the highest A++ Grade in the 3rd cycle of NAAC accreditation for 7 years.

The convocation address was delivered by Shri B. V. R. Subrahmanyam, CEO of Niti Aayog, who applauded the university’s name, drawing inspiration from the 10th Sikh Guru Govind Singh and the land of Pandavas, known for their exemplary human values. He emphasized India’s goal to become the largest higher education system by 2047, with a focus on providing access, promoting research, fostering innovation, and ensuring holistic education.

To commemorate the Silver Jubilee celebrations, a Postal Stamp and a special cover were released by Mr. Ashok Kumar, Post Master General. Additionally, a Commemorative Coin and a ‘Silver Jubilee Book’ were unveiled, adding to the festive spirit of the occasion.

The ceremony was graced by the presence of distinguished guests, including Smt. Alice Vaz R., Higher Education Secretary; Ms. Sunita Shiva, Registrar; Prof. Gulshan Kumar, and Dr. S L Bhandarkar, Controllers of Examination, making the convocation a truly momentous event for GGSIPU.
