Amidst a diplomatic standoff between India and Canada regarding the killing of Khalistani separatist Hardeep Singh Nijjar, the Ministry of External Affairs issued a cautionary advisory on Wednesday. The advisory urged Indian nationals and students in Canada to exercise the highest degree of caution.

‘In view of growing anti-India activities and politically-condoned hate crimes and criminal violence in Canada, all Indian nationals there and those contemplating travel are urged to exercise utmost caution. Recently, threats have particularly targeted Indian diplomats and sections of the Indian community who oppose the anti-India agenda. Indian nationals are therefore advised to avoid traveling to regions and potential venues in Canada that have seen such incidents’: Ministry of External Affairs.

Following Canada’s allegations of potential links between the Indian government and the assassination of the pro-Khalistan leader, the country took the step of expelling a senior Indian diplomat. In a reciprocal action, India responded by ejecting a senior Canadian diplomat from Delhi.
