Kerala has announced a progressive policy granting two days of menstrual leave each month to women trainees in all government ITIs across the state. The initiative, introduced by Education Minister V. Sivankutty, aims to support women in physically demanding skill-training programs.
“Women are active in all sectors, including strenuous trades in skill training. Considering this, female ITI trainees will now receive menstrual leave,” Sivankutty stated.
Besides this, ITI students will get all Saturdays as a holiday. In order to compensate for the shortage of training hours, two shifts will be revised as follows: first shift – 7.30 AM to 3.00 PM and the second shift – 10.00 AM to 5.30 PM. As there will be Saturdays off, the trainees will be allowed to utilize this day for shop floor training or short courses or any other extracurricular activities, if required.
