The University School of Environment Management (USEM), IP University in collaboration with the National Institute of Disaster Management (NIDM), is organizing a week-long Faculty Development Program (FDP) on “Current Environmental Issues and Challenges in Disaster Risk Reduction” from August 19 to 23 at the university’s Dwarka campus.

Inaugurating the event, Prof. Anil Kumar Gupta, Head of the ECDRM Division at NIDM, said that three factors are significantly impacting the environment: environmental changes, land use changes, and commercial exploitation of natural resources. To maintain environmental balance, we need to control these factors.

Prof. Arun Sharma, Director General of the NECARE Division at DST, said that urban floods and urban pollution are also serious environmental challenges. We need to find ways to reduce them.

Prof. Varun Joshi, Dean of USEM and convener of the program said that 60 participants from Delhi and other parts of the country are attending the FDP, including officials from government departments and institutions in Delhi. He added that each day’s session will be conducted by experienced experts in the field.

Today’s sessions featured Prof. Anubha Kaushik on environmental sustainability, Prof. Varun Joshi on broad changes in disaster risk reduction, and Dr. Anshu Sharma on potential disasters in urban areas.
