APAAR ID Launched: A Unified Digital ID for School Students

Share

In a landmark step aligned with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and the National Credit & Qualifications Framework (NCrF), the ministry of education launched the Automated Permanent Academic Account Registry (APAAR) ID, designed as a singular 12-digit identifier to change the student’s academic journey in India. This ID will then turn out to be a “digital academic passport” that aggregates all the student’s credentials and achievements in the DigiLocker platform, and these are all available to the student throughout their education and professional life.

It is a big step toward achieving the government’s vision of “One Nation, One Student ID.” The APAAR ID is a lifelong identifier that will be given once to students and used throughout all their academic and professional milestones. The UDISE+ is a unified data management system under which, from October 1 to November 1, 2024, more than one crore school students were allotted and authenticated their APAAR ID. The roll-out will enable more than 25 crore school students to come under this platform in the forthcoming years, so that there is no student left out with the increased access, transparency, and security APAAR ID offers.

The APAAR ID also aims to facilitate not just the student record but also the digital transformation of the entire Indian education system. APAAR ensures smooth transfer between schools, universities, and professional organizations by maintaining a centralized and secure record of all the students’ academic records. The lifelong ID will be there in a consolidated place where certificates, achievements, and qualifications will be kept, along with easy access through DigiLocker, a government-certified, secure, cloud-based document storage service from India.

The system design depicts a high importance to data privacy and security since the student information should be protected while accessible to the user when needed. The government has taken all cautious measures to secure the students’ data by emphasizing that APAAR records can only be accessed by authorized personnel and the students themselves. This amount of security emphasizes the trust in the digital ecosystem being created for education in India.

Ever since the world has seen its transition into a digital era, from education’s point of view, it shows how far ahead the ADAAR ID initiative is for India. APAAR ID will unite administrative flows and reduce instances of paperwork; it will also force students to take responsibility for their educational journey. India would like to focus more on skill building and lifelong learning, and APAAR will help provide students with reliable records that can be produced when seeking higher education opportunities or entering the workforce.

The government encourages all schools to disseminate this information to students and their parents to assist in preparing the APAAR ID. Parents and students can contact their schools for more information about the ID and what benefits it can provide them in future academic pursuits. With APAAR ID, India’s education system is moving closer to a tomorrow where support and protection of academic journeying, as well as easy access to needed learning resources, provides the foundation for lifelong education and success.
