Delhi University Raises Promotion Passing Criteria for Undergraduate Students

Share

The University of Delhi has increased the passing criteria necessary to be promoted to the next year in the case of undergraduate students. Whereas earlier, for promotion, students were required to clear 50% of the examinations in the first and second semesters combined, now the passing criteria has been increased to 63% in all undergraduate courses.

As per the revised rules, now, all undergraduate students of Delhi University’s constituent colleges will have to secure a total of 63% marks in the first and second semesters for promotion. The change in promotion policy materialized as shortcomings in implementing the NEP Undergraduate Curriculum Framework of 2022 at Delhi University.

Students who are eligible to represent Delhi University in sports, extra-curricular activities, National Cadet Corps, National Service Scheme, or in any other similar activity, shall not be considered under this scheme at par, subject to the verification by the competent authority of the college.

This decision to raise the passing criteria has been taken after a 12-member committee comprising principals of several DU colleges, along with the Dean, Academics, and Controller of Examination reviewed the existing rules and recommended. These recommendations were later approved by the DU Vice-Chancellor Yogesh Singh.

It recommended that students should pass 50% of the academic requirements for them to be promoted to the next year. The committee further suggested a student to score a minimum of 28 credits for progression to the next year compared to 22 credits.

It totality, the passing criteria of undergraduate students in Delhi University are increased, as is envisaged in effectively implementing the National Education Policy and ensuring a culture of academic excellence amongst the students.
