Government And UGC Project To Develop 22,000 Books In Indian Languages

The Ministry of Education and the University Grants Commission have embarked on a project called ASMITA — Augmenting Study Materials in Indian Languages through Translation and Academic Writing — to develop 22,000 books in Indian languages in the next five years.The Project would aim to develop a sound ecosystem of translation and original book writing in Indian languages in all disciplines of Higher Education. While the output has been quantified in terms of at least 1,000 books in 22 languages, implying a total output of 22,000 books in Bharatiya bhasha .Nodal Universities and Standard Operating Procedure Thirteen nodal universities have been identified to lead this project, along with the member universities from various Region The UGC has also made a uniform SOP for writing a book in every language assigned to it. The same shall include the identification of nodal officers and authors, assigning titles and subjects, writing and editing manuscripts, review, and plagiarism check.
Bahubhasha Shabdakosh Leaving aside that ASMITA project, the Ministry of Education has also launched the “Bahubhasha Shabdakosh,” which is a single-point reference for all the words in all the Bharatiya languages and their meanings. It is inclined towards assisting in the use of Bharatiya words, phrases, and sentences concerning different types of new age fields connected with information technology, industry, research, and education.Government and UGC have not only taken movements to promote Indian languages as also first languages in education, but be it a student of any discipline, the need to provide study materials in Indian languages is taken seriously.
