Government Proposal Suggests Incorporating Class 9-11 Performance into Class 12 Results for Student Assessment: Report
Share
A government proposal lately circulated would include a student’s performance in Classes 9th, 10th, and 11th in their final marks for Class 12th. The proposal has been given by PARAKH, a unit within NCERT that is working towards making assessment standardize across the school boards in the country. The performance in these three classes, based on examinations and continuing classwork, would be evaluated and reflected finally in the Class 12th report cards.

The same has been in unison with the concept of credits as recommended in the National Education Policy 2020, whereby it is made incumbent that accomplishment of a student at secondary level be credited and combined with performance in the board examination. Effectively, students will get an assessment in terms of credits whereby a student will earn 40 credits each in Classes 9th and 10th and 44 credits each in Classes 11th and 12th.
The inclusion of Class 9-11 performance in the Class 12 results makes the assessment holistic since it then becomes a fully rounded evaluation of the pupil’s academics throughout his or her secondary school career. In that sense, it recognizes continuous learning as a fact and motivates the pupil to perform consistently throughout his or her academic journey.
This proposal is yet under consideration, and contacts with the states are underway; detailed talks can be held if needed to make this new assessment system as smooth as possible. Its emphasis on stronger methods of student assessment describes its commitment to raising the overall standard of education and ensuring a fair judgment of the students’ knowledge and abilities.
It will include the evaluation of students in Class 9-11 performance for the Class 12 results—a step that could potentially set a new trend in assessing students. This only proves that the government is truly working as much as possible to institute a strong and inclusive system of education that can empower the potentials of the students and ready them for the future.
