The Directorate of Education (DoE) has instructed schools to be prepared to enroll repeater students who have failed class 9 for the second time to be enrolled in the National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS) in its academic session 2024-25. This is expected to mitigate the risks of dropping out.As per the information received from the Computer Cell of the DoE, a total of 17,308 students failing for the second time in class 9 declared this has academic session of 2023-24.
However, out of these, only 6,200 are seen are in the process of enrolling through the DoE’s NIOS portal. The fact that very strong emphasis is being given to ensuring that these children are provided with all necessary support and counseling is emphasized by the circular. Now the heads of government schools will also provide them counseling and they along with their parents are directed towards the continuation of studies through the NIOS. This offers the method of studying at his/her own pace and gives an option for subject of interest. The ultimate aim is to get them back to their parent schools after they have successfully completed class 10.The full commitment by the Directorate of Education was to assist all its learners, with prior approval of appropriate authority, in ensuring their goals were achieved educationally. .
This is one of the initiatives taken up by the concerned authorities to decrease the drop out rate of the students, thereby providing them ample scopes to carry on their studies. In essence, it addresses the high risk of dropouts of the repeaters by providing an alternative way to complete their schooling through the NIOS.
