Fortaleza, Brazil – At the G20 Education Ministers’ Meeting held in Fortaleza, Hon’ble Union Minister of State for Education and Development of North Eastern Region, Dr. Sukanta Majumdar underlined India’s commitment towards enabling education professionals and exploiting digital platforms for inclusive education. In a powerful speech, Dr. Majumdar mentioned how India was strategically implementing educational needs through capacity building and digital accessibility, both in line with the NEP 2020.
Dr. Majumdar underlined how India values the development of skills and competencies by its education professionals, since they are the ones working with the future of this country. “India has deep respect for its professionals in education, knowing how critical their capacity and commitment is to achieving equitable, quality education,” he said. One would hope that with NISHTHA (National Initiative for School Heads’ and Teachers’ Holistic Advancement) and the Malaviya Mission and the National Mentoring Mission, India, in due course, has a good support system through which its teachers can make both personal progress and make effective use of classrooms wherever required in the country.
This is what was also in the forefront of Dr Majumdar’s speech and that is India’s eagerness to highlight the positive role digital resources can create in reducing the gap or inequality between the haves and the have-nots in educational pursuits. These DIKSHA, SWAYAM, SWAYAM PRABHA, and the Academic Bank of Credits (ABC) system have been quite useful in spreading quality education, mainly to the remote and the unreached areas. Such a digital platform can be utilized by the students and the teachers for learning vast resources ranging from online courses to interactive content, supporting continuous learning outside of the traditional classroom setting.
In it, he elaborated how such a DIKSHA portal enables teachers and students across districts with quality educational material through its accessibility to all students and teachers, promoting a kind of learning equity with all regions. Multimedia material of courses and online content developed for SWAYAM will add to this initiative on multiple Indian languages. And SWAYAM PRABHA also ensures that the needful students are not stopped on grounds of language in such courses. The ABC credit system is a forward-looking concept of NEP 2020, where the system empowers students to be more flexible and adaptable by making credit earning and transfer much more feasible across institutions, enabling a more personalized, adaptable learning journey.
When this G20 meeting is unfolded, the ideas Dr. Majumdar reflected through the assembly echo and relate to the vision for the future that India shares to make education accessible, inclusive, and transformative while it is empowered by strong teaching and supported by technological developments.
