On the momentous fourth anniversary of the National Education Policy, 2020, it was announced by the Ministry of Education to have a week-long ‘Shiksha Saptah’ in Delhi. Organized by the Department of School Education and Literacy, this has been done with a motive of joyfully celebrating the transformative reforms brought into being by NEP 2020 and driving biddings of collaboration and innovation in the education ecosystem.
Shiksha Saptah offers a golden opportunity to convene and reflect on learning, achievements, and progress made by the country in the last four years. It is a platform in which experiences of good practices can be shared and challenges discussed with a view to working out strategies and action plans for the future in the light of the goals and objectives enshrined in the NEP 2020.
Different days of this week-long activity are dedicated to various themes. Every day looks into the system of education and development from a different perspective. The themes that are to be observed during Shiksha Saptah include Teaching-Learning Material Day, Foundational Literacy and Numeracy Day, Sports Day, and Cultural Day.
The objectives of Shiksha Saptah are to make the student and the teacher empowered in terms of knowledge, opportunities, and resources so that they can create a better future. The participants can share in collaborative learning through activities, workshops, and discussions. They shall get an insight from experts into innovative teaching methodologies. It shall encourage the use of TLM based on local contexts, and it shall have a student-centered approach toward education.
Shiksha Saptah, the week-long celebration itself stresses on the importance of education and literacy within society. The week acts as a reminder of one of the principal roles of education in bringing change in people and society. It shows reforms in education brought by NEP 2020 and involves increasing the commitment further for the growth of education across the nation and quality education for all.
While in Delhi, Shiksha Saptah is part of pan-India activity. Other states, like Haryana, have a week-long program in this regard to mark the fourth anniversary of NEP 2020. The objectives were to develop an atmosphere of collaboration, innovation, and the spirit of learning among learners, educators, policy framers, and other stakeholders across the country.
Shiksha Saptah is not any jubilation but has been a testimony to what education can transform. This week-long celebration brings together all stakeholders, furthers collaboration, and hence showcases the achievements of NEP 2020 as a catalyst itself for further advancement processes in education. It puts us again in Atlantis regarding what collective responsibility should be: empower future generations and build a strong educational foundation for a brighter tomorrow.
