Probably the most serious educational challenges facing us in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic are heavy learning losses the world over. This disruption, as a result of school closures and remote learning, has profoundly affected students’ progress in their studies. While countries wrestle with mitigating this learning loss, myriad schemes have been firmed up to drive the goals of the NEP 2020. Of these, the PM SHRI scheme is turning out to be one of the important schemes in attending to the dire need of undoing the learning losses caused by the pandemic.

PM-SHRI is a prime ministerial initiative or plan for holistic nourishment envisioning a comprehensive package for extending support to schools, mainly for the students of the downtrodden sections. It focuses on the nutritional, health, and educational needs of children to ensure overall well-being and development. The contents of the scheme include nutritious meals, health check-ups, mental health support, and educational interventions.
The NEP 2020 aims at changing India’s education system and effecting holistic development in learners. It lays emphasis on the fact that there is a need for equity in access to quality education and the promotion of critical thinking for the overall well-being of learners. PM-SHRI makes provisions for necessary support to students, especially those from marginalized communities, through the provision of resources and opportunities so that they can do well both academically and otherwise.

The scheme shall provide nutritious meals, health check-ups, and mental health support, thereby creating a good environment that enables students to focus on their studies and tide over the pandemic. In addition to that, the scheme has a component for educational intervention, which bridges learning gaps, ensuring due academic support to the students. While the world is grappling with the aftermath of the Covid-19 pandemic, the learning loss for the student community is now an emerging concern. Out of the various activities planned as a part of the implementation of NEP 2020, the PM-SHRI scheme focuses on the holistic support of students and undoing the ill effects of the pandemic on their education. The scheme becomes very instrumental in ensuring that students get the necessary support to overcome learning loss and continue their education with a resilient
