President Confirms Appointment Of Prof. Mohammad Shakeel As Officiating VC Of JMI

The President of India announced that Prof. Mohammad Shakeel has officially been appointed as the Officiating Vice Chancellor of Jamia Millia Islamia. This key appointment is aimed at strengthening the leadership at JMI and ensuring that the varsity functions smoothly during the transition period.
Prof. Shakeel comes as one of the most reputed professors in the Department of Civil Engineering at JMI with years of academic and administrative experience. His career spans several decades and is a great contributor to the field of education. He joined JMI as a Lecturer in November 1986 and gradually rose to the post of Reader in 1992 and to Professor in the year 2000. Prof. Shakeel is BTech, MTech, and PhD in Engineering from Aligarh Muslim University and the University of Roorkee.
The appointment of Prof Shakeel as the Officiating VC has been made in compliance of the Delhi High Court’s directions issued for the smooth functioning of the academic and administrative machinery of JMI without any glitch. The court also laid great emphasis on the initiation of the process of appointing a regular VC within a stipulated time frame. In effect, the appointment of Prof Shakeel is an important step to ensure the continuity and stability of the leadership of the university, respectively, pending the installation of a regular vice-chancellor.
The assumption of the position of Officiating VC by Prof. Shakeel affirms that JMI stands by its educational standards and goal-supported environment. Such vast experience and expertise of the Vice-Chancellor will surely contribute to the general growth and development of the university in promoting an inclusive and innovative academic landscape.
On his assuming this new responsibility, JMI definitely looks forward to a bright chapter with Prof. Shakeel as its Vice Chancellor. He said the university fraternity was assured that his tenure as VC would further enhance the morale of the varsity’s faculty and also place JMI at the core of the higher educational institutional matrix in India.
