Share
Flagship program of the Department of School Education and Literacy – Ministry of Education: Samagra Shiksha works with the mission of ensuring access with equity and retention in school education. It is an all-encompassing program from early childhood to pre-university levels that reflects the commitment of the government towards quality education with equity for every child.

In essence, Samagra Shiksha addresses a few key areas for building up the educational system. The one broader objective is to ensure that all the basic infrastructure required at school is made available. This includes the provision made for construction and maintenance of school buildings, classrooms, laboratories, and libraries, including water for drinking, sanitation facilities, and playgrounds. The program thus made tries to develop a conducive and facilitating atmosphere for the holistic development of students.
Another important parallel component of Samagra Shiksha is the provision for adequate teaching-learning material. Provisions are made for the schools to be sufficiently resourced with the necessary paper materials, textbooks, and digital resources for teaching aids. Being developed by subject/resource experts, these resources are conceptualized with the aim of improving the learning process and making the education of students at all levels more interesting and effective.
It also centers on attracting and maintaining the right staff in the schools. This is through employing trained teaching staff and qualified administrative personnel and support staff. Samagra Shiksha centers its activities more on the mission of boarding schools with personnel who not only qualify to teach but is competent and enthusiastic in ensuring that the learners’ potential are utilized in shaping a desirable educational environment.
Adherence to the prescribed educational standards is also one of the objectives of the Samagra Shiksha program. This is conducted through implementation of a standardized curriculum and constant assessments, among other quality assurance mechanisms, in checking on the performance of schools. The standards the program upholds serve to see the whole range of students receive quality education and get prepped for the next level of academic and professional pursuits.
Enrolment analysis is another vital exercise that Samagra Shiksha undertakes toward the improvement of infrastructure and resources, but, more importantly, it brings about important insight with respect to enrolment pattern that helps identify the pattern and gap areas in the attendance of school for devising strategies. Integrating out-of-school children into mainstream education is one of the gargantuan tasks that the program strives to undertake. The program will identify the causes of dropout, and follow essential measures of returning the children back into the network to ensure every child is well catered for with good quality education.
All this is done using various interventions and initiatives under Samagra Shiksha, such as special training programs for the out-of-school children, bridge courses, and residential camps. The programme also brings community, parents, and local authorities on board to sensitize them on the importance of quality education and in motivating school enrollment and attendance.
Moreover, the program promotes inclusive education by addressing the needs of children with disabilities and other marginalized groups. It provides support for the construction of accessible infrastructure, the provision of assistive devices, and the training of teachers in inclusive education practices. By doing so, Samagra Shiksha ensures that every child, regardless of their abilities or circumstances, has the opportunity to receive a quality education.
