The Education Minister welcomed Supreme Court’s decision on cancelling NEET-UG 2024 and reiterated that the Centre had been saying that there was no large-scale breach in the medical examination.

Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan

The Supreme Court rejected, on Tuesday, calls for the re-examination of the controversial NEET-UG 2024 exam test, citing insufficient proof of a systematic breach. Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan welcomed the decision and said, “The truth has prevailed.” He further announced that the final results shall be declared by the National Testing Agency within two days.

Reiterating what the government has been saying all along that no large scale breach had taken place, Pradhan said student welfare was of paramount importance. “The truth has prevailed. We welcome the decision of the Supreme Court. Our priority is the students of this country, ensuring no tampering with their future. For the last 2-2.5 months, the government’s stand has been that there has not been any large-scale breach,” he said

NTA To Announce Final Results Within 2 Days

The Education Minister said that the final NEET-UG 2024 results will be announced by the NTA within two days, with a revised merit list in compliance with the Supreme Court’s observations. The initial 61 toppers will now be revised to only 17, as 44 students will no longer get full marks for one of the two contentious questions.

Judgement Will Open Eyes Of Critics

Elated by the Supreme Court verdict, Pradhan took to his X handle and expressed satisfaction over the verdict. According to him, it will bury all speculations and grant relief to hard-working students. He termed the decision a landmark that safeguards the interests of the students and alleged that some people had maligned the credibility of the Indian examination system.

 Committed To Transparent, Tamper-Free Exams

He claimed that the government was serious about a transparent and tamper-free examination system, citing the bringing of The Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Act. A high-level committee, with Dr. K Radhakrishan, former chairman of ISRO, he said, was currently working on revamping the NTA, whose report was expected soon. A role has also been assigned to the Central Bureau of Investigation in looking into the irregularities.

Opposition Should Apologise For Misleading Students

The Education Minister bitterly condemned opposition leaders for their interference in the examination system and for cheating students and parents. He charged them with creating confusion and fanning social tensions to take advantage of political mileage. Pradhan called for an apology from these leaders, citing, “You have hurt the country… you tried to create anarchy… you hatched a conspiracy to trigger civil unrest. The country won’t forgive you. Students of every political leader are everybody’s children, irrespective of political rivalry.”
