Transforming Lives through Literacy: ULLAS Mela in Haryana

The State of Haryana celebrated a gigantic step toward its commitment to literacy and lifelong learning with the festival of ULLAS Mela on 19th July at Kaithal. This event was part of the ‘100 Days Vision’ initiative led by the Department of School Education and Literacy, aimed at educational growth with inclusiveness in the State.
ULLAS Mela, or Understanding Lifelong Learning for All in Society, is the initiative a coming together and celebration during this festive occasion of literacy by a set of educators, learners, and community leaders. The presence and support of the Esteemed Member of the Legislative Assembly Shri Leela Ram, MLA, himself as the Chief Guest of the occasion has rendered great importance to it.
The highlight of the ULLAS Mela was the recognition and honouring of committed learners and volunteer teachers who have made invaluable contributions towards advancing literacy in their communities. It was said that the functions of the two officials have gone extra miles to ensure that education reaches every nook and corner of the state, unfolding completely the spirit of the Saakshar Bharat mission.
Moreover, the forum provided a chance to share best practices in education from various districts. Sharing innovative ways of teaching, successful literacy programs, and even community-driven initiatives that created togetherness and collective responsibility were shared. Such an idea and strategy exchange was purposed to inspire and arm other regions with tools necessary for improving efforts on literacy.
Besides the honors and presentations, the ULLAS Mela interspersed interactive sessions, workshops, and cultural programs to create a very interactive and informative ambience for all its participants. It laid activities underlining the message of literacy as not only a fundamental right but as a base for personal and community development.
If anything, ULLAS Mela at Kaithal was an event that proved beyond doubt the unflinching commitment of Haryana towards building a literate society. The unanimous participation and fervor demonstrated a shared goal of “Jan Jan Saakshar Bharat” a literate India for every citizen.
