DU Introduces CUET For PhD Admissions Starting Next Academic Year

Delhi University to Conduct PhD Admissions via Common Entrance Test (CUET) from Next Academic Year, as per media reports.
Delhi University Implements Common University Entrance Test (PhD) for PhD Admissions in Upcoming Academic Year, This marks a departure from the traditional approach of conducting separate written tests and interviews for PhD admissions. The decision was made during the Executive Council meeting, along with other resolutions, including the introduction of a five-year LLB program.
According to the university’s statement, PhD admissions for the academic session 2023-24 will be based on the CUET (PhD)-2023, following the recommendation of the Standing Committee of the Academic Council. This move aligns with the university’s ongoing implementation of CUET for undergraduate and postgraduate admissions.
The national-level CUET (PhD)-2023 will be conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA). However, teaching and non-teaching staff currently serving at the university will have the option to directly appear for interviews. The statement further clarifies that these new rules for PhD admissions will be effective from the academic session 2023-2024.
Additionally, the Executive Council approved the eligibility criteria and seat matrix recommendations of the Medical Science Courses Admission Committee (MCAC) for undergraduate courses (MBBS/BDS) in the academic session 2023-2024. Furthermore, MSc admissions for the Respiratory Therapy program will also be carried out through CUET (PG)-2023.
The approval was also granted for the establishment of the Centre for Independence and Partition Studies, which aims to research and shed light on overlooked heroes and events from India’s freedom movement and thoroughly study the incidents surrounding the partition tragedy. Furthermore, a Tribal Studies Centre, focusing on various tribes of India, and a Hindu Studies Centre offering a Master of Arts program in Hindu studies were also approved during the Executive Council meeting.
Moreover, the university announced the initiation of the Integrated Teacher Education Program (ITEP) course as a four-year pilot project, starting from the academic session 2023-24.
