The Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Mumbai, the erstwhile National Institute of Industrial Engineering (NITIE), now invites applications for its first MBA programme in Sustainability Management. This is a two-year program, and it is open only to generate leaders who can mold positive environmental and social change while balancing economic, ecological, and societal priorities. Applications are open for candidates who have secured at least 50 percent in their bachelor’s degree-45 percent for SC/ST/PwD candidates, and students with interest must submit their application by January 31, 2025, making use of the CAT 2024 scores.
With sustainability at the top of the importance scale across industries, IIM Mumbai has designed a program in response to the urgent need for leaders who can navigate and address the intricacies of sustainable business practice. “The program will enable students to acquire knowledge, develop skills, and provide strategic perspectives relevant to today’s shifting global business landscape,” states a release from IIM Mumbai. “The course will weave sustainability with core management principles to produce leaders who can catalyze meaningful change across industries while balancing environmental, economic, and social priorities,” the institute added.
The IIM Mumbai’s contemporary take on an MBA program approaches things differently than other traditional programs. This course focuses more on a multidisciplinary orientation. The curriculum includes both environmental science and policy-making, corporate ethics, and sustainable business strategies. It aims at creating an overall perception for sustainability through subjects like environmental management, safety practices, corporate social responsibility, and application of the ESG frameworks. These are all part of the emerging needs of industrial concerns in modern industries where the ESG principles are learnt as a fundamental necessity.
IIM Mumbai also believes in learning through practical activity. It will involve direct industry collaboration, in-depth case studies from leading sustainability leaders, and a number of real-world projects that challenge students to develop hands-on experience in designing sustainable solutions. In this manner, it is expected that the students gain insight into how sustainability could be harmoniously integrated into the core business functions, namely, operations and supply chain management, so they can leverage business decision-making in pursuit of environmental and social objectives besides financial ones.
The program will also involve getting in touch with environmental and social laws and policies as well as analytics of ESG, a relatively new field, which allows businesses to track and improve how their activities impact the planet and society. The curricula will provide graduates with a comprehensive training through which they can analyze and work on more nuanced challenges of sustainability in a business setting, knowing when to adopt and monitor ESG standards.
As businesses all over the world shift towards sustainability, IIM Mumbai’s MBA in Sustainability Management opens its doors to aspiring stewards of the environment and social responsibility willing to help lead this transition. Given that the application deadline is near, interested candidates are advised to apply for a chance to become part of the journey toward a sustainable future.
