IIT Jodhpur conducts Workshop on ‘Implementation of NEP’

Indian Institute of Technology Jodhpur has taken a proactive stance towards exploring and implementing appropriate measures for the implementation of the NEP 2020 recommendations in the Institute’s curriculum. As an Institute of National Importance, IIT Jodhpur is fully cognisant of its role in the timely and proper execution of educational policies of the country. The Institute is carefully examining the structure and nature of its existing programs, that could provide a strong foundation for introducing the NEP 2020 directives.

During the inaugural session of the workshop, Prof. Santanu Chaudhury, Director, IIT Jodhpur embarked upon the initiatives that have been recently taken to revamp academic curriculum to bring in elements of flexibility thereby enabling the students to choose curriculum of their choice. The institute has also started some new interdisciplinary and cross-disciplinary academic entities such as Schools, Centres and Interdisciplinary Research Platforms to bring in true spirit of NEP in the academics and research of the Institute.

IIT Jodhpur is already offering several options for multiple exits from programs, and movement between programs. In order to make the options even more flexible, as envisioned in NEP 2020, multidisciplinary nature of courses; namely BS in Physics (with specialisation) and BS in Chemistry (with specialisation) are offered to students.  These uniquely blended programs align with the National Education Policy and IIT Jodhpur’s vision of holistic student development, positioning the Institution as a leading force at the intersection of science and technology.

While acknowledging the role of technology in disruption in education sector, Prof. Sampat Raj Vadera, Deputy Director, IIT Jodhpur talked about the “Center for Education and Technology for Education” that is working to improve quality of education through pedagogical and technological innovations. CETE, IIT Jodhpur, right from the beginning, was created to address classroom challenges by developing high-impact educational resources. The center is aggressively working on to transform conventional instructional materials into interactive learning tools.

A Five-Day Faculty Development Programme (FDP) was organised on “Pedagogy and Technology-enabled Learning” by the Center for Education & Technology for Education during 19th July-23rd July. This FDP brought together speakers from diverse areas of global academia and industry to provide the attendees a unique perspective on pedagogy and technology-enabled learning. The program was particularly beneficial for new faculty members and doctoral students interested in pursuing a career in academia. The Resource Persons for the event included speakers from academia and industry from India and abroad. A total of 12 speakers conducted 17 sessions over 5 days on a wide range of topics such as learning sciences, pedagogical strategies, interactive learning environments, innovative ways of integrating technology in the classroom, technology-enhanced learning through AR-VR and gamification, effective assessment strategies, instructional design, and educational data analytics. These sessions were deeply interactive in nature and engaged the participants in concepts, applications, as well as related activities. The program was coordinated by Dr. Rajlaxmi Chouhan, Associate Professor, Department of Electrical Engineering, and Affiliate Member of the CETE.

IIT Jodhpur aspires to bring out students with requisite skill-sets, required to assume leadership positions in the different sectors of industry, further their career in higher studies, or embark on entrepreneurial ventures to address present day unmet challenges of the country.

The workshop ended with the thanks note to the participants from different educational institutions, attended the workshop and panel discussion.
