IIT Hyderabad, Nikon Open New Centre for Cutting-Edge Imaging

Share

The Indian Institute of Technology, Hyderabad (IIT H), collaborated with Nikon India, a subsidiary of Nikon Corporation, has opened its state-of-the-art ‘Nikon Centre of Excellence’ on its campus. This cutting-edge facility is aimed at revolutionizing the research on advanced imaging technologies and supporting scholars, trainees, and collaborators all across the country.

The CoE is equipped with sophisticated imaging tools: including the Nikon inverted microscope Ti2-E for fluorescence imaging, the TS2FL inverted tissue culture microscope, and the SMZ 800 using fluorescence attachment for macro imaging. Researchers would be able to study biological systems at unprecedented scales: individual cells to the cell-growth plate and even to the complex human tissues. Substantial breakthroughs in high-resolution imaging and cell biology should thereby be facilitated.

As Prof. B. S. Murty, Director of IIT Hyderabad, stated, talking about the relevance of the collaboration, “We are very happy to partner with Nikon India in setting up this Centre of Excellence. The centre aligns perfectly with our mission to encourage high-end research and diverse learning. It will inspire students and researchers to take the initiative and evolve new heights of innovation as well as enter into new frontiers of science.”

A major challenge in cell biology and related areas is to be addressed by the Centre, using state-of-the-art equipment and technical know-how for interdisciplinary research. The centre will become a hub for innovative studies, making an enormous difference in all aspects of academic and research environment among scientific disciplines.

This would be a great step toward the strengthening of the academia-industry relationship, leading to breakthroughs in imaging technologies and applications thereof in science and healthcare.
