In the IITs, pan-IIT student governance inaugural summit for the council of student leaders was held in the institute on Saturday to deliberate on campus governance by deciding upon the strategies.
The Indian Institute of Technology Madras recently organized the first-ever ‘Pan IIT Student Governance’ summit held on October 26-27. Student leaders from all the IIT campuses came together to address pressing issues and improve student life through actionable initiatives. This pioneering event was meant to empower student representatives with essential skills, fostering a unified approach to governance and enhancing overall student experience in IITs nationwide.
The student leaders took the sessions on ‘UG Placement and Internship Management Policies’, ‘Research Infrastructure and Career Development’, and ‘Cultural and Tech Fest Strategies’ with discussions on ‘Sustainable Campus Policies and Student Practices’, ‘Academic Standards and Policies’, ‘Research Affairs and Ecosystem Policies’, sessions of ‘Student Mental Health and Holistic Wellbeing’.
Atharv Joshi, convenor student, expressed immense enthusiasm about the collaborative aspects of the event, hailing it as “an innovative platform designed to generate mutual collaboration, idea exchange and shape the future of governance amongst students across our institutions”. The summit, he pointed out, brought together various student leaders from IITs for a “transformational experience” poised towards positive, sustainable changes.
The students would thus be able to work out suitable action plans at the grassroots level through these structured and brainstorming discussion sessions where resolutions would be possible as well as to people around them. The student summit also created strong networking within the student leadership, professors, alumni, and many other stakeholders as it unites the IITs on one platform. It lays a strong basis for students to communicate further, collaborate, and learn from the experience long after the meet is over.
IIT Madras’ Pan IIT Student Governance Summit will promise to catalyze a new era of student-driven reforms by equipping student representatives with the tools and networks needed to drive change in creating a more enriching academic, social, and emotional environment across India’s premier technical institutions.
