IIT Roorkee and Samarkand State University (SamSU) signed a series of agreements on Tuesday that mark a step forward in the direction of solving global environmental issues through JMDP related to climate change and global water challenges. This interuniversity collaboration will be geared towards research and academic excellence in hydrology, environmental science, sustainable energy, and SDGs.

These agreements were formalized through a Memorandum of Understanding and a letter of intent, signed by Prof. Khalmuradov Rustam Ibragimovich, Rector of SamSU, and Prof. Kamal Kishore Pant, Director of IIT Roorkee. Important faculty members from both institutions attended the signing ceremony.

Thus, the project will be collaborated by IIT Roorkee’s department of Hydrology and SamSU’s department of Hydrometeorology. It can be taken as offering an opportunity to acquire skills in water resource management and climate adaptation and also in sustainability.

The joint program will address critical global issues such as water scarcity and climate change that currently degrade environments. It aims to provide future leaders with tools for developing sustainable solutions to the pressing issues of the world.

The association will henceforth contribute toward higher levels of academic excellence and social influence through innovative solutions for water and environmental-related challenges. Indeed, as quoted by Prof. Ibragimovich, “The commitment of both the institutions belongs to the challenge of climate change and to the furtherance of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics education and research worldwide”.

This collaboration marks an important step forward in the international cooperative efforts of academics: Indian and Uzbek partners will together pool expertise to deal with some of the most important environmental challenges of our time.
