NEET UG: 97% More MBBS Seats, Top States for Medical Colleges

The Minister of State in the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Bharati Pravin Pawar, announced a 71% increase in medical colleges from 387 before 2014 to 660 as of now. The government has also increased MBBS seats by 97%, from 51,348 before 2014 to 101,043 currently. Of these, 52,778 seats are available in government medical colleges and 48,265 in private medical colleges. In another development, the Department of Medical Education in Uttar Pradesh revealed the addition of 1,300 new MBBS seats in state government-run medical colleges, along with 13 new medical colleges scheduled to start in the 2023-24 academic year.”

During a parliamentary session, the Minister of State in the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Bharati Pravin Pawar, shared some important updates regarding the number of medical colleges and MBBS seats in India. According to her statement, there has been a significant rise of 71% in the number of medical colleges, which has increased from 387 before 2014 to 660 as of now. Additionally, there has been a remarkable increase of 97% in MBBS seats, which has grown from 51,348 before 2014 to 101,043 currently. Out of these, 52,778 seats are available in government medical colleges, while 48,265 seats are available in private medical colleges.

In another development, the Department of Medical Education in Uttar Pradesh announced an increase of 1,300 new MBBS seats in medical colleges run by the state government. As many as 13 new medical colleges will begin operations in the 2023-24 academic year, providing more opportunities for students seeking a career in medicine. These developments reflect the government’s ongoing efforts to strengthen healthcare infrastructure in India and increase access to quality medical education.
