UPSC Revises PCS Preliminary Exam Date Following Student Protests

Share

This is after a huge protest by aspirants and a plea by the Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. Earlier, the PCS preliminary exam was scheduled on December 7 and 8 while Review Officer (RO) and Assistant Review Officer (ARO) preliminary exams on December 22 and 23.

Protests by Aspirants Force Changes

The protest by hundreds of aspirants in front of UPPSC office Prayagraj led to a rescheduling. Aspiring candidates have been criticizing the earlier pattern of the examination divided into multiple days and shifts. They claim that the earlier format is partial and imperfect and thus healthy for everyone in terms of level-playing fields.

Chief Minister Adityanath asked the UPPSC to meet their concerns and modify the examination schedule accordingly after responding to their grievances.

Official Notice from UPPSC states that PCS preliminary exam will be conducted in a single day procedure divided into two sessions. Morning session between 9:30 am to 11:30 am and then afternoon session from 2:30 pm to 4:30 pm.

This change will ensure that the process of conducting the examination is even and safe, thus reducing the likelihood of making mistakes often associated with multi-day exams.

RO and ARO Exam Schedule Unaltered

The preliminary Review Officer (RO) and Assistant Review Officer (ARO) exams schedule is unaltered and will proceed as scheduled on December 22 and 23, 2024.

Students Accept This Decision

Many aspirants camping for a simple and transparent examination format have welcomed the announcement. “This is a welcome change. The conduct of the exam on a single day will reduce stress and minimize logistical issues,” said an aspirant from Lucknow.

Education experts believe that this decision has brought out the need of taking feedback from students to form the examination process. UPPSC will thus try to gain the trust of applicants through an examination process in which there are no decisions or selections against the will of students.

Candidates are advised to look into the detailed notifications and updates regarding the exams on the official website of UPPSC. This revised schedule is sure to benefit more than a lakh candidates.
