As per The Hindu, the Indian Medical Association (IMA) on Sunday welcomed the government’s decision to handover the probe of alleged irregularities in the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (Undergraduate) [NEET-UG] to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
Further the association expressed its gratitude to PM Narendra Modi and others for their prompt actions addressing the controversies over NEET-UG.
The IMA further thanked the government for removing the National Testing Agency’s (NTA) Director-General.
The CBI acted upon its duty a day after the ministry announced it would hand over the probe to the central agency.
CBI then filed an FIR on Sunday addressing the alleged irregularities in NEET-UG held on May 5 on a reference from the Union education ministry. The probe is a response to the on-going countrywide protests and litigation by citizens asking for investigation into paper leak claims.
In response to the recent events, the health ministry on Saturday postponed NEET-PG, which was to be conducted on June 23, as a “precautionary measure”.
The IMA urged the government to also take swift action for the counselling of admission in medical, dental, and other courses.
