Dignitaries Celebrate Revival of Nalanda University at Prestigious Event


An esteemed gathering at Nalanda University marked a significant milestone in India’s educational and cultural resurgence. Bihar Governor Shri Rajendra Arlekar, Chief Minister Shri Nitish Kumar, Foreign Minister Shri S. Jaishankar, Minister of State for External Affairs Shri Pavitra, numerous international dignitaries, ambassadors, and academic luminaries graced the occasion, highlighting the global importance of this historic institution.

In his address, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar emphasized the historical and cultural significance of Nalanda. “Nalanda is not just a name; it is an identity, a symbol of excellence and resilience,” he remarked. “The revival of Nalanda is a testament to India’s commitment to reclaiming its rich heritage and advancing towards a golden future.”

Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar echoed these sentiments, underscoring the international collaboration involved in the university’s restoration. “The participation of numerous countries in this project signifies a shared heritage and a collective future. We are grateful for the support of our international partners,” he said.

The event celebrated the reopening of Nalanda University, now hosting students from over 20 countries, embodying the spirit of “Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam” – the world is one family. The university aims to foster global cultural exchange and lead in documenting and preserving the art and culture of India and Southeast Asia.

Highlighting India’s vision for education and sustainability, the newly inaugurated campus operates on a Net Zero model for energy, emissions, water, and waste. “This campus will not only educate but also set an example of sustainable living for the world,” Kumar noted.

The dignitaries also stressed the importance of innovation and modern education in India’s progress. The Chief Minister mentioned various initiatives, including Atal Tinkering Labs and the Startup India mission, which have significantly boosted India’s position in global innovation and research.

The gathering concluded with a call to action for continued support and collaboration in making Nalanda University a beacon of knowledge and cultural exchange worldwide. “The restoration of Nalanda is a symbol of India’s enduring commitment to education and global harmony,” Jaishankar affirmed.

This event marks a new chapter for Nalanda University, poised to become a leading center for learning and cultural dialogue, reflecting India’s rich history and bright future.
