On World Youth Skills Day, today i.e. 15 July 2024, global humanity unifies to commemorate and propagate the message of empowering young people with necessary skills for employment, entrepreneurship and well-rounded education. This year’s observance will feature a special edition of “Impact with youth”, a UNICEF podcast involving key voices on education and empowerment.
The transformative potency that lies in skill development among youth was underscored by Shri Sanjay Javin Secretary of the Department of School Education & Literacy and Ms. Kanta Singh Deputy Country Representative of UN Women India in a very engaging discussion. They drew attention to the importance of National Education Policy 2020 (NEP 2020) which seeks to ensure that every child has completed school with competency-based abilities appropriate for his or her chosen career path. Thus, it is not only an all-round preparation for jobs and entrepreneurship but also, a nurturing of deeper respect for dignity in labour.
The vision of the NEP 2020 concurs with this year’s World Youth Skills Day theme that underscores the importance of giving young minds practical skills for personal development and societal progress. In addition, by embedding skill development into mainstream education, the policy promotes an all-rounded learning experience that prepares young people to excel in a globally competitive economy.
Pedagogues from different disciplines discussing on importance in investing in youth education and skill building initiatives made point about significance of World Youth Skills Day
In this regard, as the world grapples with challenges posed by technological advancements and changing employment landscapes, initiatives such as World Youth Skills Day and NEP 2020 are critical to shaping a future where every youth can achieve their full potential through skilled empowerment and inclusive education.
Global leaders, educators, and youth advocates continue celebrating with more commitment towards promoting and implementing policies which prioritize skill development as a foundation for sustainable development and progress in society.
