IIT Delhi Launches AI In Healthcare Programme

Share

In a pioneering venture to connect medicine and technology, the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi has launched an executive online course “AI in Healthcare”. The course is designed for working professionals from different fields—medicine, engineering, data science, and med-tech entrepreneurship—interested in learning about the expanding use of artificial intelligence (AI) in revolutionizing patient care, diagnosis, public health infrastructure, and hospital administration.

The six-month program, also known as the Executive Program for AI in Healthcare, starts on November 1, 2025. Already open for applications, and closing July 31, the program provides a golden chance for professionals to reskill and drive the digital transformation in healthcare without having any coding or AI experience.

This online programme, part of IIT Delhi’s eVIDYA initiative under the Continuing Education Programme (CEP), is tailored to be accessible and manageable for working individuals. Classes will be conducted over weekends, making it easier for busy professionals to engage without disrupting their work commitments. The course has been structured to blend theoretical understanding with hands-on experience, enabling participants to gain real-world insights into how AI technologies can be practically applied to healthcare challenges.

One of the most impressive aspects of the programme is its interdisciplinarity. Whether one is a clinician desiring to enhance clinical decision-making, a biomedical engineer seeking to design innovative diagnostic devices, a data analyst interested in deriving real insights from clinical information, or an entrepreneur developing healthcare solutions—there is something worthwhile in this course for everyone. The curriculum of the program includes the building blocks of Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning (ML), and Deep Learning (DL) like supervised and unsupervised learning methods, and basic ML/DL algorithms like linear regression, decision trees, clustering, logistic regression, support vector machines (SVM), neural networks (NN), and convolutional neural networks (CNN).

In the interest of practicality and utility in actual applications, the course also includes basic sessions with Python and MATLAB—two platforms with the widest applications in AI and medical research. Trainees will be instructed on variables, functions, libraries, and data manipulation tools such as Pandas and NumPy and will be required to undertake practical exercises with real-life healthcare data analysis, including signals and medical images.

One of the unique aspects of the course is its heavy reliance on experiential learning. Students will work on various projects based on actual clinical data, such as electronic medical records (EMRs), imaging data, genomic datasets, and Internet of Things (IoT) sensor data. Projects are structured to enable students to apply AI tools and techniques to a range of healthcare environments, from diagnosis and treatment planning to hospital automation and public health surveillance.

The program ends with a capstone project, through which students will get a chance to develop a real-world healthcare issue with IIT Delhi and AIIMS mentees. This collaborative system not only provides technical education but also live feedback and implementation of concepts in practice settings.

They will also learn about industry-standard protocols such as FHIR (Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources) and DICOM (Digital Imaging and Communications in Medicine) so that they can create and deploy AI solutions that work in harmony with healthcare infrastructures available.

The cost of the course is Rs 1,20,000 including 18% GST and paid in two installments, and an extremely reasonable investment in a course conducted by one of India’s top institutions. Along with skill development, the course provides a chance for learning to be a thought leader in healthcare application of AI—a rapidly growing area and in dire need of innovation.

The program is set against the background of a changing world of healthcare where technology is no longer auxiliary but an integral driving force of change. With more focus placed on personalized medicine, predictive analytics, and computerized diagnosis, professionals who have the ability to work across the boundaries of medicine and technology are more needed than ever before. Not only does this program impart technical knowledge to students, but it also teaches them with the vision and leadership abilities to navigate healthcare organizations through this information revolution.

As the world and India grapple with compound healthcare issues, ranging from resource constraints to emerging diseases, AI is viewed as the facilitator of the affordable, scalable, and impactful solutions. The Executive Programme in AI in Healthcare by IIT Delhi comes at a timely moment, with sorely needed pragmatic and timely learning that can change our world view on the nexus of technology and health.
