Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) in New Delhi will host a well-known three-day national seminar on “Indian Knowledge Systems (IKS): Philosophical and Scientific Foundations” from July 10–12, 2025. Prominent academics, researchers, students, and intellectuals from around the country will gather for this conference to investigate and discuss the intellectual legacies, philosophical concepts, and scientific legacy developed from ancient and classical Indian civilization. Joint conference organisers are the Special Centre for National Security Studies (SCNSS) at JNU in New Delhi and the Indian Council of Philosophical Research (ICPR). Particularly in the areas of philosophy, science, mathematics, medicine, the arts, architecture, and linguistics, the conference will offer a venue for fostering intellectual discussion and increasing awareness of India’s varied and rich intellectual history. Re-examining and reinterpreting the philosophic and scientific underpinnings of India’s traditional knowledge systems will be the focus of the conference. Through keynote addresses, panel discussions, paper presentations, and interactive workshops, participants will investigate the significance of ancient Indian knowledge in tackling contemporary problems in technology, health, education, and the environment. Interdisciplinary perspectives will be encouraged by the courses, which will help one to strike a balance between historical knowledge and modern science. The conference, according to the organizing committee, will include presentations from a range of topics including Vedic literature, classic Sanskrit writings, Ayurveda, Yoga, Nyaya, Vedanta, astronomy, and logic. Distinguished academics from research institutions, Central Universities, and IITs are expected to provide ideas on the possible uses of Indian epistemological paradigms in modern academic and scientific contexts. Highlight of the event will be the emphasis on incorporating Indian knowledge traditions into contemporary teaching techniques to decolonize the Indian education system. Because the NEP 2020 stresses the revival and integration of Indian Knowledge Systems into the higher education curriculum, this conference fits national academic goals. Academics will present ideas on how these systems can be used in research focus, curriculum design, and policy formulation. Apart from scholarly classes, the conference will feature special presentations by well-known thinkers and cultural academics who will address how India’s cultural knowledge may forward world thought. Along with historical books and creative forms, the festival will also highlight a range of cultural events showing the holistic nature of Indian legacy via dance and musical performances. The first session, scheduled for the morning of July 10, will be attended by prominent officials from the Ministry of Education, University Grants Commission (UGC), and Indian Knowledge Systems Division. Advancement of Indian knowledge systems in Indian colleges as well as leading legislators and educators engaged in the discussion will help it along. Expressing his enthusiasm about hosting this national event, Vice-Chancellor of JNU Prof. Santishree Dhulipudi Pandit remarked. She says that JNU has always been a leader in critical thought and intellectual exploration; this conference will support its commitment to indigenous and interdisciplinary research. She underlined the need of acknowledging and redefining indigenous Indian knowledge systems inside the current academic framework to promote pride and intellectual curiosity among youth. Highlighting Indian intellectual traditions and major contributions to the development of philosophical study throughout the nation is the co-organized Indian Council of Philosophical Research. Working with JNU, this ambitious project seeks to have the required academic structure and institutional support. Abstracts for paper presentations for the event, which is open to registered students from colleges and research institutions, have already been requested. Chosen conference papers will be featured in a unique book building on the current scholarly material on Indian Knowledge Systems. As the country strives to incorporate traditional knowledge with worldwide educational trends, the JNU conference is expected to be a turning point in rediscovering India’s intellectual past and its capacity to solve contemporary global challenges.
