India Makes its Best-Ever Finish on International Math Olympiad

India finishes record books with the best-ever performance at the International Mathematics Olympiad in 2024. The Indian team ranked fourth bagging four golds and one silver medal at the 65th IMO in Bath, United Kingdom.The best performance of India in IMO 2024 since its first participation in 1989; the team’s ranking at fourth position marks the highest ever achieved by India. Previously, the country’s best rank was seventh in 1998 and 2001. The Indian team scored an overall of 167 points, one mark short of South Korea that took the third position. The first position was taken by the United States team, with 192 marks. A total of 609 students from 108 countries participated in the IMO 2024.
Indian Team Members and Medals The Indian team was composed of six students who had excelled in competition. In a post on X, he expressed his pride in the team’s performance and said that the way they had performed was going to inspire other youngsters and in turn propagate the subject of mathematics.

About the International Mathematical Olympiad The International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO) is one annual competition concerning high school mathematics students from all over the world. Each year, it is conducted in a different country and has gone slowly incrementally, with more than 100 countries from five continents participating. In 1959, the first IMO was held in Romania with seven participating countries.India has now achieved a milestone in the IMO 2024 and showcases the talent and commitment of the Indian team. This achievement is the testimony toward the country’s commitment to endowing its students with excellence in mathematics.
