JNU and DU to Postpone Undergraduate First Semester Classes Due to NTA’s Deferred CUET UG 2024 Results

The National Testing Agency (NTA) conducted the CUET UG exam 2024 across three slots from May 15 to May 29. Originally slated for release on June 30, the results have been postponed due to controversies surrounding NEET UG and allegations of paper leaks.

Due to the delayed declaration of results for CUET-UG, Delhi University has now decided to postpone the start of the semester for first-year students. The revised call, announced on Saturday by Vice Chancellor Yogesh Singh, has deferred the start date from August 1 to August 16. The postponement comes as a result of massive disruptions caused by the delay in CUET-UG results, which have had a ripple effect on the academic calendar.
The results of CUET-UG, conducted by NTA, have been delayed primarily because of paper leaks and investigation into these leaks. This had a direct impact on the admission timeline of DU, forcing its administrators to rethink the start of the academic year.
While freshers will be joining late, rest of the semesters in DU will start as usual on August 1. This staggered start serves the dual purpose of minimizing the disruption in the university’s academic functioning while ensuring continuity for students in highersemesters.
The deferring of the semester start is a pointer to the quite a number of disabilities on the part of DU while maintaining a structured academic calendar as various extraneous factors came to the fore in affecting the timely declaration of entrance examination results. As VC Yogesh Singh has said, notwithstanding these setbacks, the university remains committed to ensuring the admission process is fair and transparent.
Looking ahead, the administration of DU still remains vigilant and sensitive for dealing with any further implications and working through smoothly for the rest of the academic year for all students. This could also result in discussions related to changes in future academic calendars to avoid such challenges triggered off by external examination processes.
The present situation illustrates all the complexities involved in managing higher education admission and academic timelines, once a certain examination gets delayed and other administrative associated issues crop up.
