Shiksha Saptah Day 5: Celebrating Skilling Day and Technology in Education Divas with a Focus on Skill Development and Digital Integration

The NEP 2020 emphatically presents the development of skills and integration of technology in education as major mootable areas for the future of India’s educational landscape. Hence, Skilling Day and Technology in Education Divas are celebrated on the fifth day of Shiksha Saptah.

Skilling Day is meant to focus on skill-building and enhancement of employability in students. Activities held on this day are intended to fill up gaps between theoretical learning and acquisition of practical skills. Role-playing activities take center stage, whereby students engage in simulating scenarios of the real world that help them develop critical thinking, problem-solving abilities, and effective communication. In addition, there are cultural visits for the exposure of students to various industries or working environments that make them better aware of the environments and expectations of work. Activities shall be designed to help students acquire the requisite skills to navigate in the job market and foster a culture of lifelong learning and adaptation.

Skilling Day and Technology in Education Divas are being observed on the fifth day of the Shiksha Saptah.

While on the other hand, Technology in Education Divas works towards bringing out the transformational power in digital education that gives a new face to today’s learning environment and enhances the student’s learning experiences. Today is about raising awareness for the integration of state-of-the-art technologies like Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, and Virtual Reality into the curriculum. It offers many workshops and seminars on the use of digital tools in demonstrating the development of teaching methodologies for enhancing the interactivity, engagement, and accessibility of learning. Inservice teachers are advised to create innovative approaches that utilize technology in personalizing learning experiences, catering to different styles and needs of learners in classrooms, with a view to creating a collaborative learning environment.

The NEP 2020 envisions education not to be an exercise at knowledge acquisition only but equips students with various skills, which are extremely important for personal and professional growth. The policy stipulates that one day each for Skilling Day and Technology in Education Divas, within the ambit of Shiksha Saptah, underscores the important role of skills and technology in shaping India’s future regarding education. These are initiatives toward making an education system that is dynamic, inclusive, and able to turn students into individuals who are ready to face all the challenges and exploit all the opportunities of the 21st century.
