University of Essex Launches Dual Award Nursing Master’s
Share
The University of Essex has now offered an integrated Masters in Science, which includes a Dual Award in Adult and Mental Health Nursing. It is a four-year degree course, full-time, designed to provide more extensive preparation for the work areas that students are preparing for: it gives them the knowledge and practice they require to perform clear, specialist holistic physical and mental health care.
This MSci Nursing course is a balanced course in which there is an equal input of 50% clinical practice and 50% theoretical study. This means the student gets to have hands-on experience in all healthcare settings while learning the basic concepts of nursing. In the first three years, it will be either adult and mental health nursing and they have a chance of switching into the dual award track at the end of their third year if they are able to meet acceptable standards for progression. The final year will be dedicated to the other pathway, and the graduates will earn awards for both pathways.
There will be placements in various locations in Essex. This implies that, in lieu of their best effort, for the appropriate empowerment, and in return, the students will be given exposure to various settings in health care for sharing varied experiences while taking their health and social care courses regarding the NHS, private hospitals, as well as voluntary organizations. This diversity is important in fostering adaptable professionals who can meet the demands placed upon the health sector.
To be eligible for the course, applicants are required to meet an entry standard on the basis of BBC-CCD (112-88 UCAS tariff points) A levels or equivalent relevant qualifications. International students must have a minimum overall IELTS score of 7.0 with no less than 6.5 in writing and 7.0 in other components. It also provides eligible students with available support through the NHS Learning Support Fund. In this case, a total of £5,000 grant is allocated per academic year in addition to extra financial help for those students with dependents.
Graduates of this distinctive program will be able to register with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) with dual roles as Adult and Mental Health Nurses, a move that will substantially improve their opportunities for employment in the health-care field. The fact that such a qualification has come to be regarded as part of integrated health care service delivery is ever more telling.
