National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS) released the official schedule for the Graduate Pharmacy Aptitude Test (GPAT) 2025. The national-level test is administered to provide scholarships to deserving students who apply for admission to the Master of Pharmacy (MPharm) course. It significantly contributes to the academic advancement of students who aim to pursue higher studies in the pharmacy field.
The test for GPAT 2025 is going to be conducted on May 25, 2025, and will be conducted in a computer-based manner. The test results will be announced on June 25, 2025, which will be the final phase of the test process. For those who are interested in applying, the window for application will be open from April 1, 2025, to April 21, 2025. The candidates are requested to note down the dates of registration and apply within the time frame to save themselves from last-minute troubles.
To be eligible for the GPAT 2025 exam, the candidates need to have a Bachelor of Pharmacy (BPharm) degree, which is a four-year course pursued after high school (10+2). Lateral entry students with the completion of an equivalent degree of BPharm are also eligible to sit for the exam. Candidates in their last year of the BPharm course and whose results will be announced prior to the beginning of admission to the MPharm course for the academic year 2025-26 are also eligible for the exam. Also, those candidates who are in their pre-final (third) year of BPharm course and anticipate the announcement of final-year results prior to the admission process for the MPharm program in 2026-27 can also give the exam.
The GPAT 2025 will have 125 multiple-choice questions (MCQs) and will be held within a span of three hours, or 180 minutes. The questions will be based on different topics pertaining to the pharmacy profession. The test is intended to measure the knowledge and aptitude of the candidates in pharmacy education across different areas. The GPAT exam topics are categorized into different groups, and Pharmaceutical Chemistry and Allied Subjects and Pharmaceutics and Allied Subjects are each covered by 38 questions. Pharmacology and Allied Subjects will account for 28 questions, and Pharmacognosy and Allied Subjects will have 10 questions. Other topics from the BPharm course will cover the remaining 11 questions.
While marking, every correct response will be given marks according to the weightage provided to the particular section. The maximum total marks for the exam are 500. The distribution of marks is as follows: Pharmaceutical Chemistry & Allied Subjects will have 152 marks, Pharmaceutics & Allied Subjects will have 152 marks, Pharmacognosy & Allied Subjects will have 40 marks, and Pharmacology & Allied Subjects will have 112 marks. The remaining 44 marks go to the “Other Subjects” section.
The GPAT 2025 will be held at different test centers throughout India. This will make it possible for students from various areas to take the examination. Candidates wishing to apply for the GPAT 2025 need to log on to the official website of the National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS) at natboard.edu.in. Once they are on the website, the candidates can choose the “GPAT 2025 Registration” option from the menu. For registration, they need to fill in a comprehensive form that necessitates personal and educational details. Once the registration form is submitted, the candidates are sent a login ID and password through email or mobile number. These credentials enable them to log in to the application portal and finalize the application by entering the requisite details.
Apart from this, candidates also need to upload scanned copies of their photograph, signature, thumb impression, and other documents in the specified format and size. The last step in the application process is the payment of the registration fee. Once the payment is done, a confirmation page will be displayed. Candidates need to print the confirmation page and keep it with them for future use.
The GPAT test is important for students who want to study postgraduate pharmacy and earn scholarships that will assist them in funding their education.
