Government schools in Tamil Nadu have been making headlines due to the unbelievable success of students regarding higher education. Recently, Chief Minister M.K. Stalin appreciated such students and announced that the one-time travel expenses, including those incurred by students going abroad for studies, shall be borne by the state government and that the education expenses of students studying in prestigious institutions like IIT, NIT, etc., in India will also be covered by the government.
Celebrating Success
Chennai: At a special do at the Anna Centenary Library, CM Stalin felicitated 461 students who had secured admissions in premier educational institutions within India and even outside the country. Out of them, 14 students have received full scholarships for universities in Japan, Malaysia, and Taiwan. This is part of a wider initiative to empower students from socially and economically backward classes to prove that if proper support is given, they too can compete at the best level in academic and social spheres.
Stalin said he was proud of not only the students but also their teachers and parents, and attributed this achievement largely to the way the School Education Department was working. He said the number of students this year who had qualified to pursue higher studies had gone up significantly by admissions to universities—this year to 447 from 75 in 2022, and admissions are still going on—or + In total, it has increased to crore students. This has proven the positives accruing from the government’s intervention in the education sector and more so under the Dravidian model which insists on growth in all departments.
A Vision for the Future “When students from government schools get into the premier education institutions, it leads to huge positive social and economic impact,” he said. The Chief Minister urged educational institutions to provide support and encouragement to these students, reinforcing the idea that talent and potential are omnipresent in every nook and cranny of society.
Stalin has also focused on the welfare measure, Pudhumai Penn scheme, by which he had ensured funding for girl students from government schools; as a result, 34% more girls got admitted to colleges. This, with the start of technology introduced in the classrooms, by the use of hi-tech labs, has immensely contributed to the learning experience of the student.
Means of Appreciation and Encouragement
Speaking at the event, Stalin encouraged the student community to develop self-confidence and emphasised that they should face all impediments with the fact that they could overcome it. He said students from Tamil Nadu need special care in the educational institutions located in Taiwan and Malaysia.
As Tamil Nadu leads the nation in student enrollment in higher education, the commitment of the government to fund education for students of government schools is a landmark step for creating an equitable educational landscape. This measure will not only forge a well-prepared future for the youth but also foster a generation that will contribute meaningfully toward society.
