Union Govt, Mizoram Discuss Boost to Education Under NEP

In a significant initiative taken towards the development of education in Mizoram, the Minister for School Education, Government of Mizoram, Dr Vanlalthlana visited the Union Education Ministry office here to discuss strategies with senior officials for strengthening school and higher education in the State. The delegation had constructive discussions about many issues with several members of the educational framework in Mizoram, which are in keeping with the objectives of National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.

The key topics discussed during the meeting were the improvement of the quality of the schooling system, PM SHRI schools initiative, teacher capacity building, and planning for the future of Higher Educational Institutes (HEIs) in Mizoram. The specific educational priorities of the state were also discussed to ensure holistic development of the education sector.

One of the key features of the discussion was the roll-out of the PM SHRI (Prime Minister’s Schools for Rising India) scheme in Mizoram. This scheme will transform existing schools into model institutions by focusing on quality education, modern teaching methods, and improved infrastructure. The delegation stressed that the schooling system needs to be upgraded so that quality education can be made available to all children of Mizoram, especially those living in remote and rural areas.

The talks also emphasized the need for teacher training and capacity building. The Union government assured support in providing resources for continuous professional development programs for educators, equipping them with advanced pedagogical skills to meet the demands of modern education.

Advancing Higher Education

Discussions further led to the issue of the development of Higher Educational Institutes (HEIs) in Mizoram. The delegation emphasized the need for more institutions that impart higher education, technical education, and vocational training that would enable the youth to acquire skills useful for employment. The collaborations between the HEIs in Mizoram and premier institutions in the country were also envisioned to promote research opportunities and quality academic practices.

Alignment with NEP 2020 The conference emphasized the need to implement NEP 2020 in the state for an inclusive, equitable, and vibrant knowledge society. According to NEP 2020, the implementation of digital learning tools, regional language teaching, and skill-based education was discussed. The recommendations of the policy would change the face of education by making it more accessible and learner-centric.

Union Government’s Commitment

Union Education Ministry officials assured Dr. Vanlalthlana and his delegation of the central government’s unwavering support in realizing Mizoram’s educational aspirations. Emphasizing the vision of Hon’ble Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the officials reiterated the government’s commitment to empowering Mizoram’s school students and youth through enhanced learning and employment opportunities.

Under the prime ministership of Prime Minister Modi, all help and assistance shall be forthcoming to the state government in its pursuit to make the education sector in Mizoram be aligned to the state’s socio-economic agenda. In this we will collaborate in empowering the students and developing opportunities for them for comprehensive development,” he added.

The meeting concluded with mutual resolve and a focus both on the foundational and advanced levels of learning in Mizoram’s education system. There is now a joint purpose by both the state and central governments that can go a long way to produce an educational agenda that satisfies the aspirations of the youth and contributes significantly toward the socio-economic development of Mizoram.

This development sets the stage for transformative changes in Mizoram’s education sector, ushering in a brighter future to students in the state and the next generations of leaders.
