The Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti (NVS) has announced an extension of the registration deadline for the Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya Selection Test (JNVST) for Class VI admission. The examination, which paves the way for entry into the network of Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas (JNVs) across the country, attracts lakhs of applications every year as parents aspire to secure quality education for their children in these prestigious residential schools. For the upcoming academic session 2026–2027, the application process has been extended once again to provide students and parents more time to complete the necessary formalities.

Initially, the last date to apply for JNVST 2025 was July 29, which was then extended to August 13. However, keeping in view the large number of requests and the interest of students who were unable to complete the process earlier, NVS has further pushed the deadline to August 27. Parents who have not yet registered their children still have the opportunity to apply by visiting the official websites—navodaya.gov.in and cbseitms.rcil.gov.in—where the registration link has been activated for Class VI admissions.

The JNVST exam is a gateway to a limited number of seats across India, as admissions in each Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya are restricted to 80 students only. This makes the competition quite intense, with candidates from rural as well as urban areas aspiring to secure a place. The test is unique because it is designed to identify talented children, particularly from rural backgrounds, and provide them with opportunities for high-quality education free of cost.

For the 2026–2027 academic session, the selection test will be conducted in two stages. The first phase of the exam is scheduled for December 13, 2025, at 11.30 a.m., while the second phase will take place on April 11, 2026, also at 11.30 a.m. Candidates will be allotted their respective test centers, and admit cards will be made available prior to the examination dates.

Applying for the examination requires candidates to follow a set procedure. Parents or guardians must visit the official portals and complete the online form by entering personal and academic details of the child. This is followed by the uploading of essential documents, which include a recent passport-sized photograph, the signature of both the candidate and the parent, a valid residence certificate or Aadhaar details issued by a competent government authority, and the child’s birth certificate. In addition, students belonging to Scheduled Caste, Scheduled Tribe, or Other Backward Classes must upload a category certificate to avail the benefits of reservation policies. Once the details are filled in and documents uploaded, the form has to be submitted online, and applicants are advised to download and keep a printed copy of the registration page for future reference.

Candidates have to adhere to a specific process when seeking to take the exam. Parents or guardians have to go to the official sites and fill out the online form with the child’s personal and academic information. Following this is the uploading of required papers, which consist of a recent passport-sized picture, the signature of both the applicant and the parent, a legitimate residence certificate or Aadhaar information issued by a capable government body, and the birth certificate of the kid. Furthermore required to upload a category certificate in order to take advantage of reservation rules are Scheduled Caste, Scheduled Tribe, or Other Backward Classes students.
