Readmio Raises €1 Mn From Polish VC for Global Expansion

A children’s storytelling app, on Monday, said that it has raised €1 million in fresh funding from Polish impact investor Simpact Ventures. The money will be used to expand into Asia, the United States and Latin America.

The app is built around a simple idea. Parents read aloud. The phone listens. When it hears the parent’s voice, it adds sounds in the background. Birds chirp. Fire crackles. Wind blows. The child hears the story come alive while still listening to a parent.

It is now available in 135 countries and offers stories in nine languages, including Hindi. Its library has more than 3,000 fairy tales. There are old classics like Little Red Riding Hood and Snow White. There are also newer stories written with help from teachers and child experts.

Families can either read the story themselves or play it as an audiobook. Many stories also come with small activities. There are colouring pages, simple quizzes and worksheets. Some parents say it helps stretch story time a bit longer.

More than 2 million users have downloaded the app so far. In the past year, the number of paying users has tripled. Around 50,000 families now have a paid subscription. The company says children and parents have read or listened to over 10 million stories together.

This is not the first time investors have backed the app. It had earlier raised money from Czech and European funds. The latest funding round shows that interest in digital reading tools is still strong, especially those that focus on parent-child interaction rather than screen-only use.

The company was also selected among 200 startups for TechCrunch Disrupt 2025 in San Francisco. That gave it a chance to present its product to investors and media in the US.

At the same time, the app has partnered with T-Mobile in some European countries and in the United States. Customers in those markets get special access through the telecom network.

For now, the focus is on growing in new regions and adding more local language stories. The bigger question is whether apps like this can really change reading habits at home. Many parents struggle to find time. But some say even ten minutes of reading with sound effects feels special. And sometimes, that is enough.
