JS Institute of Design Welcomes New Batch with Industry-focused Orientation

JS Institute of Design (JSID) has welcomed its new batch of students with a two-day orientation programme aimed at introducing them to the institute’s industry-led and globally connected approach to design education.
Held on July 29 and 30, the programme brought together academic leaders, practising designers, alumni and faculty members to familiarise students with the institute’s academic environment and the changing demands of the design industry.
The orientation highlighted JSID’s academic collaboration with École Intuit Lab, France. Clément DeRock, Co-Founder and Co-President of École Intuit Lab, and Yan Garin, Country Head of École Intuit Lab India, participated in the programme, underscoring the institute’s focus on combining international academic exposure with industry-oriented learning.
Addressing the students, Prof. Nien Siao, Dean of JS Institute of Design, encouraged them to remain curious, build industry connections and develop a global outlook alongside their design education.
A key feature of the orientation was interactions with industry professionals who will also mentor students as visiting faculty during their academic journey. Prashant Sharma, Director of Design at Keka, architect Palak Mittal, Founder of Desigent Design Studio, and Akhilesh Bhartia, Founder of Immersive Arts Studio, shared insights into current design practices and industry expectations.
Dr. Pramath Raj Sinha, Co-Founder of JS Institute of Design, said design education should encourage students to question, experiment and learn through experience. He added that the institute aims to help students become creative and adaptable professionals by combining academic learning with industry engagement and global perspectives.
The orientation also included separate sessions for undergraduate and postgraduate students, introductions to academic regulations and student support services, alumni interactions, collaborative activities and networking sessions. According to the institute, the programme was designed to help students build connections with peers and faculty while gaining an understanding of its industry-integrated learning model.
