Ten outstanding students at Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University (GGSIPU) in New Delhi were selected for the Millennium Fellowship 2025, one of the most prestigious student leadership programs in the world co- run by the Millennium Campus Network (MCN) and the United Nations Academic Impact (UNAI). August was a turning point and source of pride.
The amount of what was achieved makes this event noteworthy. Though only 4,000 outstanding young leaders were chosen from across the world, this year more than 60,000 candidates from 7,000 schools in 160 countries applied. Among the ten names from GGSIPU and its affiliated colleges are Aadya Khanna, Akshat Tanwar, Anamika Aggarwal, Anmol Bharti, Bhavya Gupta, Laksha Beniwal, Palak Goel, Prakhar Chandra, Prisha Udar, and Sana Parveen.
Apart from improving their grades, the fellowship gives these kids the opportunity to put their ideas and projects into action. Addressing concerns including education, gender equality, climate change, mental health, and community development, they each proposed modifications for the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Local projects direct the fellowship since they bring about worldwide transformation.
Next semester, the pupils will start a demanding curriculum that will encompass peer-to- peer contact, leadership growth, and professional coaching from every field. Students will develop their projects, partner with peers from all around, and learn how to come up with original ideas. They will be awarded the esteemed Millennium Fellow designation at the end of the event and get group signatures from MCN and UNAI.
This recognition is very prized by the institution. Vice Chancellor Padmashri Prof. (Dr.) Mahesh Verma was quite proud and delighted with the accomplishment of his students. The University is very proud that our students chose this very demanding worldwide curriculum. It shows how committed we are to developing leaders who not just do very well academically but also love helping humanity and advance sustainable development, he noted. His words capture the broad goal of GGSIPU, which is to produce ethical leaders who have both knowledge and empathy rather than just pass on data.
The fellowship stands out for its profound impact on individuals. It has more to do with ideas pertinent to people than with grades, rankings, or test scores. While some of the selected students are focused on concerns including community health, sustainability, and advocacy for disadvantaged groups, others are working on initiatives to advance inclusion in education. These youthful brains are getting ready for a future society now confronted with great problems.
This time helps young people to be grounded and raised at the same time. Though it carries weight, they find consolation in having been picked from among tens of thousands of applicants. They represent the aspirations of Indian students and their college globally.
Beyond formal education, the Millennium Fellowship offers additional possibilities. Cross-cultural collaboration, original ideas, and best practices will be available to members of a worldwide network of change agents. These sessions will assist these people grow to be socially responsible leaders aware of world problems in addition to their own major projects.
This achievement improves the image of GGSIPU even more. The organization has worked over many years to create a climate that encourages intellectual curiosity, creativity, and social responsibility. These 10 students’ successes show how Indian universities are steadily backing international projects including the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Everyone will see the start of life-changing ten Fellows’ semester. Their decision—which combines vision, purpose, and education—goes beyond personal achievement as it enables kids to help to create a more inclusive and sustainable society.
Their accomplishments across several fields show what every institution hopes for: graduates who are not just capable but also genuinely devoted to their neighborhood. Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University is reminded by this knowledge that its students are ready to change the world, not only the classroom.
