Developed by IIT Delhi alumni, PiFy is a revolutionary educational application on WhatsApp for immediate provision of academic assistance to students. The innovative tool aims to address the issues confronted by students in gaining access to good academic assistance, especially for those who may be shy to ask questions within the typical classroom environment or unable to afford such expensive educational tools.

PiFy claims to be the first AI educational tool in India on WhatsApp for democratizing learning-a feat it hopes will attain by being accessible, affordable, and efficient. It allows users to scan a QR code to avail a plethora of services: instant doubt resolution, mock test generation, and revision note creation. Being user-friendly with all-around academic support, PiFy caters to students from all levels, across boards, competitive exams, and the provision of regional language support.

Where PiFy’s strength lies, it is with the ability to give real-time, step-by-step solutions to queries. This, in fact, becomes more critical near examination time or whenever students are in desperate study peril late into the night when ordinary academic support is difficult to come by. The AI-based application employs several cutting-edge technologies such as NLP (natural language processing) and image recognition for the development of its personalized and context-aware solutions. In effect, just by sending a text or image inquiry over WhatsApp, the user receives an answer in clear and explicit terms that addresses their specific question.

The cost factor is one of PiFy’s biggest attractions. Operating on a pay-as-you-use model, users can clarify up to 100 doubts for less than Rs.200. At this price, PiFy becomes much more economical than the other AI-based educational tools, which tend to be costly and less accessible. Also, since it works on WhatsApp, students do not need to download any extra app or go through registration-subscription routines, thus making the use case even more considerate.

Rupesh Kumar, co-founder of PiFy and IIT Delhi alumnus, explained the mission to make PiFy think and act like a teacher: “We designed PiFy to not just answer queries but to think like a teacher, analyzing the question, breaking it down step by step, and delivering precise explanations in real-time.” Kumar felt that one of the biggest hurdles they had to face in the development of the tool was to ensure that it really meets the diverse academic needs of the students. He underlined the fact that many tools today lack the precision, subject diversity, or accessibility that are really needed for students in remote areas to benefit from them. With the integration of AI with WhatsApp, it clearly gives PiFy a major leverage, with respect to removing these barriers and allowing all types of students to get dependable academic support. 

The creation of PiFy saw the considerable backing of DRIIV, Office of the Principal Scientific Adviser (PSA), and Government of India. Being hosted at IIT Delhi, the platform comes well secured and the confidendiality of the design was ensured, giving a safe space to students to pose their questions without fear of judgment. This comes as an important perk for students who might shy away from asking for help in a physical class due to factors such as embarrassment or fears of being seen as struggling.

Beyond its core functions, PiFy aims to become a long-term study buddy for students. With a personalized focus, it increases confidence and promotes self-learning. PiFy, with its round-the-clock accessibility, empowers students to take control of their academics, depending not solely on classroom learning or pricey private tuition.
