India Poised to Reclaim ‘Vishwa Guru’ Status by 2047, Says Silchar University Vice Chancellor

India has all the potential to become the ‘Vishwa Guru’ by 2047, said Dr Rajive Mohan Pant, Vice Chancellor of Silchar University, Assam, while addressing the national seminar on ‘Role of Media and Communication for Viksit Bharat’. Quoting from the ancient times, he said, once upon a time, we were the Vishwa Guru during the ‘Swarnim kaal’, but was taken over by the foreign invaders during the ‘Vishad kaal’, and now have full ability to become the ‘Vishwa Guru’ once again during this ‘Amrit kaal’. The vibrant youth force and strong leadership is our strength. Media can play a crucial role to break or make India.The seminar is sponsored by Indian Council of Social Science Research and is organised by University School of Mass Communication of GGSIPU. Several national level research papers were presented on the occasion.

Prof M Ravindranath, Dean, Centre for Media Studies, JNU stressed upon the fact that the media is the vehicle to communicate Government policies to the people. The gap between Digital media and public should be narrowed down. Media has a responsibility of accounting and providing feedback for rectification purpose, he added.

Prof Gita Bamezai (Retd) of IIMC mentioned about the journey of India from an Agarian country in 1947 to a digital hub by 2047. The four major goals to be achieved include; economy, social progress, environmental sustainability and good governance. Mr Sidharth Mishra of VIPS also addressed the gathering of scholars from across the country.

On the occasion, two books; ‘From Likes to Lives’ by Dr Ramesh Kumar Sharma of VIPS and Dr Durgesh Tripathi of GGSIPU; and ‘Foundations of Change, Analysing the Impact of National Education Policy 2020 on India’s Educational Landscape, also by Dr Durgesh, Dr Ramesh and Surbhi Tandon were also released.
