IP University Hosts One-day Programme On Indian Women’s Rights In NRI Matrimonial Cases

University School of Law & Legal Studies, IP University in association with National Commission for Women organised one- day awareness programmne on “Rights of Indian Women in NRI Matrimonial Issues” here today. The sole objective of organising this awareness programme was to sensitize the society about the atrocities faced by Indian women in NRI marriages and to make aware of legal intricacies involved behind it, to deliberate the need for a mutual legal assistance between countries and to spread awareness among the women about how and where to seek help in this regard.

The programme was aimed at educating the participants about the dos and don’t in NRI marriages and where to reach out in distressed conditions. Also, the presence of experts further guided participants how to handle the matrimonial issues on emotional level.

The event commenced with an inaugural session presided over by Padma Shri, Prof. (Dr.) Mahesh Verma, ( VC of GGSIPU). Shri A. Asholi Chalai, Joint Secretary, National Commission for Women as the Chief Guest and Shri. Sukhraj Katewa, Additional DCP, Dwarka and Prof. Queen Pradhan, Dean, University School of Law & Legal Studies and Dr. M. Satkthivel, Convenor of the Programme were present. Experts from academia, DLSA & Mental Health professionals shared their views on the topic.

This event was attended by police personnel, various religious communities’ leaders, RWA representatives, members from civil society and students of different colleges in the districts of South Delhi and South – West Delhi.
