Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University (IP University), a prominent name in higher education in Delhi, has announced the launch of a three-year LLB program (Code 238) for the academic session 2025–26. This marks a significant addition to the university’s academic offerings, aimed at providing aspiring legal professionals with an intensive and focused course in law.
According to the university’s announcement, the new program will be available at the University School of Law and Legal Studies (USLLS) at the Dwarka campus, as well as at two of its affiliated institutions — Vivekananda Institute of Professional Studies and Chandraprabhu Jain College. Initially, 60 seats will be offered at each of these three institutions, making a total of 180 seats available in the first year of the program’s launch.
Applications for the program are currently open, and interested candidates must complete the online application process by August 12. The registration and counseling fee for the program is Rs. 2,500. University officials have emphasized the importance of meeting this deadline, as the admission process will follow a set schedule to ensure timely commencement of classes.
Admission to the program will be based on the university’s Common Entrance Test (CET), which is scheduled to take place on August 17. This test will serve as the gateway for prospective students to secure a place in the program. The CET will assess candidates on various fronts, including language and communication skills, general knowledge, awareness of current events, and foundational understanding of law and legal reasoning. The inclusion of these areas in the entrance exam ensures that applicants possess not only academic capability but also the aptitude and awareness necessary for success in legal studies.
The eligibility criteria for the program require applicants to hold a bachelor’s degree from a recognized university with at least 50% marks. This standard aims to attract students with a solid academic background and the capability to meet the rigorous demands of a professional legal education. By setting a clear eligibility benchmark, the university seeks to maintain the quality and competitiveness of the program.
The decision to launch this program at USLLS and its affiliated colleges reflects IP University’s commitment to expanding access to legal education while maintaining academic excellence. USLLS, situated at the Dwarka campus, has long been recognized for its quality legal education, experienced faculty, and emphasis on both theoretical and practical aspects of the law. The two affiliated colleges — Vivekananda Institute of Professional Studies and Chandraprabhu Jain College — also have established reputations for delivering quality higher education, and their inclusion in the program will enable a larger pool of students to benefit from the initiative.
University officials have highlighted that the introduction of the three-year LLB program is a strategic step to cater to graduates from diverse academic backgrounds who wish to pursue a career in law. Unlike the five-year integrated programs, the three-year LLB is designed for students who have already completed an undergraduate degree in another discipline but are now looking to enter the legal profession. This flexibility allows professionals from various fields to transition into law, enriching the legal community with individuals who bring diverse experiences and perspectives.
The program structure is expected to provide students with a robust foundation in core legal subjects while also offering opportunities to explore specialized areas of law. While the CET will serve as the main filter for admissions, the university is also committed to ensuring that selected candidates receive holistic training. This includes exposure to moot courts, legal aid clinics, internships, and opportunities to engage with practicing lawyers, judges, and policy experts.
In making the announcement, Nalini Ranjan, Public Relations Officer of the university, encouraged eligible candidates to seize the opportunity and apply within the stipulated timeframe. She noted that the program not only opens doors to careers in litigation and corporate law but also in areas such as policy-making, academia, and public service. The initiative reflects IP University’s broader mission to produce well-rounded legal professionals equipped to serve the needs of society and the justice system.

With the legal profession continuing to evolve and expand into new domains, the launch of this three-year LLB program by IP University is a timely move. By offering rigorous training, maintaining high entry standards, and ensuring practical exposure, the university aims to produce graduates who can uphold the principles of justice and contribute meaningfully to the legal system. For many aspiring lawyers in Delhi and beyond, this program represents not just an academic opportunity, but a crucial step toward shaping a career in one of the most impactful and respected professions.
Offering demanding training, upholding high entrance standards, and guaranteeing practical exposure, the university hopes to graduate people who can uphold the ideals of justice and significantly help the legal system. Many aspiring attorneys in Delhi and beyond see this program as more than just an intellectual chance; it’s a vital step toward developing a career in one of the most influential and well-respected fields.
