Lucknow, August 6, 2025 — In a notable initiative aimed at enhancing the quality of life for individuals with disabilities, the Uttar Pradesh government has declared a 100 percent increase in the monthly maintenance grant allocated to residents with disabilities attending special schools and institutions managed by the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities. The allowance, which previously stood at ₹2,000 per month, has now been elevated to ₹4,000 per month, effective immediately from Wednesday.
This decision, which received approval under Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s leadership, is being celebrated as a crucial advancement toward the social and economic upliftment of the disabled community within the state. Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Backward Class Welfare and Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities, Narendra Kashyap, stated that this increase represents more than just financial aid; it signifies the government’s compassionate and inclusive stance toward marginalized groups in society. Kashyap noted that the adjustment will have a direct positive impact on children with disabilities who are studying and residing in special schools, along with their families, many of whom face financial hardships.
“This is not solely about finances; it pertains to dignity and care,” Kashyap expressed. “Guided by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, we have been committed to ensuring that persons with disabilities in Uttar Pradesh receive the opportunities and assistance necessary for a better quality of life. The doubling of the maintenance allowance will grant them enhanced financial stability and help their guardians manage everyday needs more comfortably.”
The revised policy was enacted through an official government order issued by Principal Secretary Subhash Chandra Sharma, which also updates a former government order from April 25, 2016. The new directive guarantees that all administrative divisions and pertinent authorities are notified promptly, helping to eliminate any delays in dispensing benefits to qualified recipients. Official communications have been dispatched to all divisional commissioners, district magistrates, divisional deputy directors, district disability empowerment officials, heads of departmental training centers, shelter home directors, and principals of government special schools. This organized communication is expected to facilitate the smooth and timely implementation of the increased allowance.
The implementation process will be thoroughly observed to guarantee transparency and effectiveness, with directives given to local authorities to prioritize prompt disbursement. Officials believe that with the new allowance in effect, residential special schools will be better equipped to foster a supportive and comfortable setting for their students.
This increase coincides with the state government’s ongoing efforts to enhance the overall infrastructure and resources available for individuals with disabilities. By tackling both financial and institutional requirements, the administration seeks to build a more inclusive and equitable environment where disabled individuals can flourish and engage fully in society.
