CBSE Board Exams 2025: FAQs, Dates, Passing Criteria

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) will begin the board exams for Class X and Class XII from February 15, 2025. In order to assist students with last-minute queries, CBSE has issued a list of Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) on presentation tips, word limits, passing criteria, re-evaluation, and more.

Exam Schedule & Timings

The Class X and Class XII exams will be held in a single shift from 10:30 AM to 1:30 PM. Class X exams will end on March 13, whereas Class XII exams will run until April 2.

Major FAQs Answered by CBSE

1. Are marks given for good presentation?

CBSE clarified that while no separate marks are given for presentation, answers should be neat and well-organized, with important points underlined for clarity.

2. Can students use a whitener or gel pen?

The use of whiteners is strictly prohibited, but students may write with blue or royal blue ink gel pens.

3. Can students reappear for exams to improve scores?

Yes, students who have successfully passed Class 10 or 12 may attempt one or more subjects in the next year to enhance their performance.

4. Are marks deducted for going over the word limit or spelling errors?

CBSE clarified that going over the word limit does not affect the marks. Nevertheless, spelling errors can result in deductions of marks, particularly in language papers.

5. Are students required to write answers in the sequence of the question paper?

No, students can try questions in any sequence, but they should make sure that they indicate the proper question number in the answer sheet.

6. Will students be deducted marks if they write in Hindi?

No, CBSE ensured that students will not be deducted marks for using Hindi medium.

7. Do theory and practical need to be attempted separately in Class 12?

Yes, separately in theory as well as in practical, 33% at least is necessary for passing.
