The Indian Institute of Mass Communication (IIMC) has officially opened online operations for admission to its PhD Program for the 2025–26 academic year. The institute, a supposed-to-be university under the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Government of India, is inviting eligible campaigners to apply for doctoral studies in a wide range of communication-related disciplines.
For the forthcoming academic session, IIMC has blazoned a total input of 22 seats for its PhD program. Of these, 18 seats are allocated for the full-time program, while four seats are reserved for the part-time mode. The doctoral program aims to strengthen advanced exploration and academic education in the evolving fields of media, communication, and confederated studies.
Program Structure and Research Areas
The PhD Program at IIMC is offered in both full-time and part-time formats to accommodate campaigners with different academic and professional backgrounds. The institute offers exploration openings in journalism, mass communication, digital media, advertising, public relations, strategic communication, political communication, film studies, development communication, and other confederated disciplines. Through this program, IIMC seeks to promote interdisciplinary exploration that responds to contemporary challenges in media and communication studies.
Campaigners enrolled in the program will be expected to take over rigorous coursework followed by original exploration under the guidance of educated faculty members. The class is designed to make strong theoretical foundations while encouraging critical inquiry and independent education.
Important Dates and Admission Timeline
The operation window for the IIMC PhD Programme 2025–26 is presently open, and interested campaigners must submit their online operations by January 30, 2026. As per the sanctioned schedule, the entrance examination for part-time campaigners will be conducted on February 15, 2026. Interviews for shortlisted campaigners will begin on March 9, 2026, and the final results are listed to be declared on March 19, 2026.
Following the completion of the admission process, coursework for named campaigners will commence on April 1, 2026. Aspirants are advised to keep track of these dates to avoid missing any critical stage of the selection process.
Seat Input and Reservation Policy
The total seat input for the PhD program stands at 22, with a clear division between full-time and part-time modes. Reservations for colorful orders will be handed in agreement with Central Government morals. In addition, IIMC has made vittles for supererogatory seats for transnational campaigners, thereby encouraging global participation and academic diversity within the program.
Eligibility Criteria for Aspirants
Eligibility conditions differ for full-time and part-time PhD campaigners. Aspirants seeking admission to the full-time PhD program must retain a master’s degree in journalism, mass communication, or confederated fields with at least 55 percent marks. Alternately, campaigners with a four-time bachelor’s degree that includes exploration factors and a minimum of 75 percent marks are also eligible. A valid UGC NET qualification in mass communication and journalism is obligatory for full-time aspirants.
For the part-time PhD program, campaigners who aren’t good for UGC NET are needed to appear for an entrance examination conducted by IIMC. Aspirants must secure at least 55 percent marks in the entrance test to qualify for the interview stage. Campaigners who formerly held a valid UGC NET qualification are exempted from appearing for the entrance examination.
Selection Process and Merit Criteria
The selection process for the IIMC PhD Program is structured to ensure translucency and academic merit. Full-time campaigners with a valid UGC NET qualification will be directly called for interviews, and no entrance examination will be conducted for them. Part-time campaigners without UGC NET must appear for an offline entrance examination at the IIMC lot in Delhi, while NET-good campaigners in this order are exempted.
The final merit list for both full-time and part-time programs will be prepared by assigning 70 percent weightage to the UGC NET or entrance examination score and 30 percent weightage to solicit performance. This balanced approach aims to assess both subject knowledge and exploration aptitude.
