The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has arrived at the last day for registrations for the Combined Medical Services Examination (CMS) 2025. Eligible candidates need to finish their applications on the official websites, upsc.gov.in and upsconline.gov.in. Candidates need to first finish their One-Time Registration (OTR) profiles in order to continue with the application.
This test is held to recruit around 705 medical posts in various government health services. The vacancies are grouped into two general categories. The first category comprises 226 Medical Officers Grade positions in the General Duty Medical Officers Sub-cadre of the Central Health Service. The second category has 450 posts of Assistant Divisional Medical Officers in the Railways, 9 posts of General Duty Medical Officers in the New Delhi Municipal Council, and 20 posts of General Duty Medical Officers Grade-II in the Municipal Corporation of Delhi.
To be considered for the test, the candidates should have passed both the theory and practical papers of the final MBBS examination. Students who are expecting their final result or have not finished their mandatory rotating internship can apply provisionally. Their appointment shall, however, be conditional upon obtaining all necessary medical qualifications.
Age-wise criteria, the majority of candidates who apply for CMS 2025 should be below 32 years of age as of August 1, 2025. But there is relaxation in the upper age limit for certain posts, for example, Medical Officers Grade in the General Duty Medical Officers Sub-cadre of the Central Health Service, where the upper age limit is relaxed to 35 years.
The candidates should also fulfill the physical and medical requirements as laid down by UPSC to be eligible for selection. During the application process, an application fee of ₹200 is charged. However, some categories such as Scheduled Caste (SC), Scheduled Tribe (ST), Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (PwBD), and women candidates are exempted from paying the fee.
This process is still one of the most desired hiring processes for medical practitioners to work in government service positions. Appointees who are selected through CMS become influential healthcare officers in various public sector institutions, making important contributions to the nation’s healthcare framework.
